ABOUT EMPIRE OPS

We build businesses that depend less on their founder

Empire Ops is one of them. This is how our own need for a better way of working became the work we do now for others.

Charlie Clarke

Founder & Director, Empire Ops

I’ve spent twenty years figuring out how businesses work and how to make them work better.

I spent the first ten inside corporate and larger businesses, learning to see operations at scale and turn ideas into changes that work in practice. Since then, I’ve worked directly with service-based founders through Empire Ops.

I didn’t build Empire Ops despite needing a business that could run without me. That need made me prove it was possible.
Today, I focus my time where it creates the most value and build that same freedom into the businesses we work with.

THE WHY

Advice doesn't change how a business runs.

Implementation does.

Operational debt builds quietly. Then growth arrives and exposes the strain all at once.

Founders come to us for different reasons, but the underlying pattern is often the same: the business has become harder to run, depends too heavily on them, and needs someone to determine what will make the greatest difference and carry the change through.

01

The visible
problem

Work is harder, slower or more dependent on the founder than it should be.

You might be seeing:

  • Growth creating more work, but not more capacity
  • The founder still needed for decisions and follow-up
  • People searching for information or recreating work
  • Everyday tasks taking more time and effort than they should

02

The underlying
pattern

Processes, technology, responsibilities and information have evolved separately.

Underneath it:

  • Processes live in people’s heads or happen inconsistently
  • Systems and tools do not connect as one operation
  • Ownership is unclear, so decisions escalate to the founder
  • Improvements keep being postponed while the team delivers

03

What creates
change

Redesigning how the work happens, then implementing the change properly.

That means:

  • Understanding how the work really happens now
  • Focusing on what will make the greatest difference
  • Redesigning the process before choosing technology, automation or AI
  • Implementing, testing and improving until the new way works

THE HOW

How we got here

Empire Ops has continued to evolve since 2018, not by discarding what came before, but by building on it. Each stage added new ways to help businesses distribute work, strengthen their operations and reduce their reliance on the founder. Those capabilities remain part of how we work today.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

What we believe

A few principles shape every engagement.

01

Only what earns its place.

We sequence deliberately: process and people first, then tools, automation and AI, applied only where they create genuine value.

02

Strategy identifies it. Implementation fixes it.

The Empire Ops Difference

Strategy identifies what needs to change. Implementation makes the change real. Clients engage us for both, and our work carries through into how the business actually operates.

03

Change that sticks is built with the people closest to the work.

We involve the people closest to the work from the start, because they are the ones who make change stick.

04

Curious about AI. Cautious about how we apply it.

We use AI where it creates clear value, with the right foundations and a human accountable for the outcome.

05

Data flows through everything.

We fix bad data at its source through process and technology, so every downstream output can be trusted.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

We combine operational thinking with practical implementation. We identify what needs to change, redesign how the work happens, then stay involved to implement, test and improve it.

We don’t begin with a predetermined solution. We look across process, people, technology, automation, AI and human support, applying only what will create genuine value.

The result isn’t another plan for your team to implement. It’s a better way of working that has already been put into practice.

You will work with the people whose experience best fits the work.

Our team brings together operational leadership, process improvement, systems, automation, AI, data and hands-on delivery. We work as one connected team, rather than asking you to find and coordinate separate providers for every part of the solution.

Charlie leads the operational direction, redesign and implementation approach behind Empire Ops.

Her level of day-to-day involvement depends on the engagement and the expertise it requires. The broader team provides the specialist and delivery capacity needed to turn that direction into a better way of working.

We involve the people closest to the work from the beginning.

They help us understand what actually happens, where the friction sits and what a workable solution needs to account for. We lead the change, while involving your team at the points where their knowledge, feedback and adoption will affect the outcome.

This helps us build changes that work in practice and continue working after implementation.

We are curious about what AI makes possible, but cautious about how we apply it.

We begin with the business outcome and the existing way of working. AI is used only where it creates genuine value, with the right business context, source information, instructions, guardrails and human accountability around it.

If a simpler process, better use of technology or clearer human responsibility is the better answer, that is what we will recommend.
